ETHNOMATHEMATICS AND ECOLOGY: IMMANENCES, AND TRANSCENDENCES

Abstract

This article compares some understandings of the immanence and transcendence between Ecology and Ethnomathematics. The objective of this study is to investigate possible interconnections between ethnomathematics and ecology, with an emphasis on the theoretical framework of both and on various previous studies. The methodological approach is critical and reflective conceptual analysis, grounded in bibliographical research. Therefore, it is understood that bibliographical research creates opportunities for the development of new understandings, new arguments, and the dissemination of new knowledge. The immanence of Ethnomathematics and Ecology is presented to co-construct transcendental aspects that connect them. Therefore, immanence and transcendence are understood as complementary and, at the same time, complex concepts. The aforementioned transcendences are based on the principle that the conceptual foundations of both ethnomathematics and ecology encompass historical, epistemological, philosophical, anthropological, and other aspects, all of which move in the same direction: the search for a better world for human beings. In conclusion, it is understood that there is a fine line that awakens the becoming, the constant becoming, between ethnomathematics and ecology. Both move toward transdisciplinarity and a holistic view of the world and education, guided by the overcoming or minimization of hegemonic orientations at the sociocultural, historical, and ecological levels.
