THE LANGUAGES KATWENA, XEREW, MAWAYANA, CARUMA, AND WAIWAI IN SCIENCE TEACHING

Abstract

This article considers the training of indigenous teachers in Roraima and reflects on the construction of materials to be used at the Wai Wai school in the Katwena, Xerew, Mawayana, Caruma and Wai Wai languages, in the Jatapuzinho community (Trombetas Mapuera Indigenous Land, Roraima). Teaching in these languages aims to revitalize them. The reflection on teacher training and the teaching of science and mathematics wants to contemplate these logics and epistemologies so that the school applies methodologies that optimize teaching-learning relationships and take into account local sociolinguistic and cultural diversity. The qualitative study is justified by producing materials and recording language particularities based on interviews about animals, plants, objects and graphic patterns, transcription and identification of variations and specificities of each language and culture and the elaboration of teacher training proposals who will be able to collaborate in this multilingual process of teaching science and mathematics.
