Abstract: Despite being an integrating topic within Biological Science, the theory of evolution causes controversy when brought to the classroom context, since it is marked by the reunion of different explanations and conceptions. Therefore, the purpose of this work is to identify the conceptions of senior high school students about the theme of evolution, aiming at future educational practices for the teaching and learning of this topic. The research has a qualitative and quantitative approach, being a case study. The data was collected through questionnaires applied to 57 students of the technical course, integrated with high school, in Farming and Animal Husbandry of the Instituto Federal de Rondônia (IFRO) [Federal Institute of Rondônia], in the Colorado do Oeste campus. It was found that most students accept the biological evolution of the species, rejecting the idea that the life forms currently found are the same as the one existing at the beginning of life. The chemical evolution is accepted as  the theory for the emergence of life by thirty-five student. However, twelve students, disagrees with such theory and ten are undecided regarding this issue. Students have difficulties in understanding the concepts of species, speciation and the process of adaptation of species. Keywords: Teaching. Biological Science. Evolution.
