Este trabalho teve como objetivo compreender as representações simbólicas das crianças do 4º e 5º ano do ensino fundamental nas aulas de ciências naturais. A pesquisa foi realizada em uma escola ribeirinha do baixo Amazonas no município de Parintins-AM. Os estudantes esboçaram sua participação nas aulas de ciências naturais antes e depois da construção de uma estante para albergar material biológico chamado de “Museu de Quelônios”. A pesquisa é de natureza qualitativa, com método fenomenológico. Para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se às técnicas de observação participante e atividades de desenhos. A percepção das crianças apresentada nos desenhos é clara, de tal maneira que na visão representativa das mesmas houve melhorias no ensino de ciências. Palavras chave: Ensino de ciências. Crianças. Abstract: Symbolic representations are ways of creatively expressing the perception about a given subject or object, being an instrument of contribution to teaching and learning. The objective of this work was to understand the symbolic representations of the children of the 4th and 5th year of elementary school in the natural science classes. The research was carried out in the riverside school of the lower Amazonas, in the municipality of Parintins-AM. The students outlined their participation in the natural science classes before and after the construction of a shelf to house biological material called "Chelonian Museum". The research is qualitative in nature, with a phenomenological method. Participant observation techniques and drawing activities were used to collect data. The perception of the children presented in the drawings is clear, so that in their representative view there were improvements in the teaching of the sciences. Keywords: Science teaching. Children.
